Frequently asked questions about waste intelligence.

General.
Waste intelligence is the practice of measuring waste at the point of disposal, structuring the data, and using it to run buildings and portfolios. Unlike traditional waste management, which is about collection, waste intelligence treats waste as an operational data layer for ESG reporting, cost control and certification.
A WasteTracker Terminal sits in the waste room. Operators, tenants and property staff register each disposal in 2 seconds. The data flows to the WasteTracker Panel, live, waste type by waste type, tenant by tenant. From there it exports to CSRD, GRESB, BREEAM, LEED and your existing property management stack.
CSRD (ESRS E5), GRESB, EPRA sBPR, BREEAM, LEED, WELL, SmartScore, ISO 14001 and the GHG Protocol (Scope 3 Category 5). All exports are structured and audit-ready.
Yes. WasteTracker is deployed in offices, retail, mixed-use, hotels and mall environments across 9 European countries.
Over 30 languages are available today. If we miss a language you need, we can add it to the system per request within 2 working days.
Yes. WasteTracker has a REST API and is integrated with key ESG and smart building management platforms, such as Deepki, Singu, Smart Spaces, Triggr, Scaler and more.
Product.
A WasteTracker Terminal is a measurement device installed in the waste room of a commercial building. It records the type, weight and source of every disposal in real time. Two versions: Classic Terminal for daily waste room operations, Drive-Over Terminal for containers and high-volume flows.
Most ESG dashboards aggregate data from invoices and utility providers. WasteTracker Panel collects data at source, at the point of disposal, so every kilogram in the report is traceable to a date, a waste type and a tenant.
Yes. WasteTracker exposes an open API and exports structured data ready for property management platforms, FM software, ERP systems and ESG reporting suites such as Deepki, Singu and Measurabl.
Yes. WasteTracker is deployed across office buildings, shopping malls, mixed-use developments and hotels, currently in 9 European countries.
A typical deployment runs within 30 days from kickoff to first data in the Panel: discovery, formalities, on-site onboarding and the first insights session with Zero Waste mentors.
The waste room must be equipped with power and provide a secure space to install the WasteTracker Terminal.
WasteTracker Nudge is a habit-change digital agent at every segregation station. It uses the WasteTracker Panel data you already collect, displays live segregation results, includes AI waste search and 5R gamification configured per property type. It is an add-on product, available across offices, shopping malls, hotels and mixed-use developments. See the dedicated section on /solutions/corporate-tenants/ for the office use case.
Nudge is a property-type-agnostic digital agent. The application is configured per property type, with content built around the waste patterns each environment actually generates:- Office buildings — coffee, paper, packaging, food. Kitchen at lunch, meeting-room clean-ups, print-stations.- Shopping malls — the food court is the highest-value deployment. Mixed-waste contamination from fast-food packaging, cups and leftover food is the biggest single segregation challenge in retail.- Hotels — guest areas, back-of-house, restaurants. Different traffic patterns, different waste streams (room service, mini-bar, laundry). One Panel manages front-of-house and back-of-house separately.- Mixed-use developments — Nudge per zone (office, retail, F&B, residential), all data flowing to one Panel.
For property managers.
WasteTracker measures waste at the point of disposal and attributes every disposal to a tenant. When a dispute comes up, contamination, volumes, waste types, the property manager has the data to settle it without hearing "it was not us" for the third time that month.
Yes. The terminal interface is 2-step: select waste type, register weight. Operators are trained on-site during deployment. 5,000+ operators across Europe are already using the system daily.
Yes. WasteTracker exports structured data and exposes an open API for integration with any third party system or Power BI. We are integrated with Deepki, Singu, Triggr, Smart Spaces among others.
Tenants get Panel access from day 1 of go-live. They see their own waste type-level data, with the option to set targets and track progress alongside the building team.
It stays in place. WasteTracker measures, the hauler collects. Once the data is in, most clients renegotiate the contract within 6 to 12 months using the actual volume and frequency evidence.
For asset and ESG managers.
Yes. WasteTracker provides structured E5 (Resource Use and Circular Economy) data at asset and portfolio level: total waste, hazardous and non-hazardous breakdowns, treatment routes (recycling, recovery, disposal), and waste reduction performance against baseline.
WasteTracker exports data for GRESB waste indicators (WD-WP, WD-WB, WD-WP-Re, WD-WB-Re), waste management policy evidence and tenant engagement metrics. All asset-level, all comparable across the portfolio.
Yes. WasteTracker applies 1 waste type taxonomy and 1 measurement methodology across every asset, regardless of country. Cross-country, cross-typology benchmarking is built into the Panel.
No. WasteTracker is deployed across offices, retail, mixed-use, hotels and shopping malls in 9 European countries.
Portfolio pricing is structured per asset with volume discounts at portfolio scale. The contact form for asset and ESG managers requests portfolio overview, we come back with a quote within 5 working days.
For corporate tenants.
Scope 3 Category 5 covers waste generated in operations. WasteTracker measures waste at source in every office you operate, applies GHG Protocol emission factors per waste type, and exports CSRD-ready and CDP-ready emissions data per office, per country, per portfolio.
Yes. This is one of the primary use cases. We have deployed in leased offices across 9 European countries, working with landlords ranging from institutional owners to single-asset operators.
This is rare but happens. We have lighter-touch measurement options for these cases, portable terminals during measurement periods, tenant-side software, structured estimates from existing collection data. We work with what is available and document the gaps.
No. WasteTracker is the data source; your ESG platform is the reporting layer. We export structured data via API and structured CSV and XML.
Most landlords do not measure waste. Those who do, use different methodologies. WasteTracker installs 1 methodology in every office, leased or owned, so your portfolio numbers are comparable, audit-ready and defendable to investors.
Yes. Some corporate clients start with a single flagship office, typically the headquarters, to build the methodology and the internal case. Then expand.
WasteTracker Nudge is a habit-change digital agent at every segregation station. Your team gets AI waste search at the moment of doubt, live segregation results from your Panel data, 5R gamification configured for office life, and cross-office comparison across your leased portfolio. No sensors, no new hardware on the bin. One panel for every agent, in every country.
Path to Zero Waste.
The 5R methodology is the operational framework for Zero Waste in commercial buildings: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot. It works as a hierarchy, avoid first, recycle as a last resort.
A typical Zero Waste roadmap runs 12 to 24 months: audit and baseline (1 to 2 months), operational optimization and tenant engagement (3 to 9 months), certification preparation (9 to 18 months). Timelines depend on building type, tenant mix and starting baseline.
Recycling rate is what gets recycled at the end of the chain (often measured by haulers). Segregation rate is what was correctly sorted at source (measured in the building). The 2 diverge sharply when contamination is high, and WasteTracker measures both.
Yes. TRUE Zero Waste, ISO 14001 and elements of BREEAM In-Use, LEED O+M and WELL include Zero Waste indicators. WasteTracker prepares the evidence required by each.
